The event produced nail-biting golf, with a three-way play-off determining the winner.

South African Anton Haig captured the title, after keeping his cool in a play-off with fellow South African Richard Sterne and England’s Oliver Wilson. Haig birdied the last hole, joining Sterne and Wilson at 13 under par. To clinch the victory, Haig sank a six-foot birdie putt, giving him his first European Tour win and his fourth professional win.

Haig’s previous victories included two professional wins in South Africa and the 2006 Pulai Springs Malaysian Masters on the PGA Asian Tour. He turned professional in 2004. At age 20, Haig became the youngest ever Johnnie Walker Classic winner. He is followed by Tiger Woods, who won the 1998 tournament – which was also hosted in Thailand – at age 22.

Haig, Sterne, and Wilson were followed by South African Retief Goosen, who came in fourth at 10 under par, with a total score of 278. A total of four golfers – including two-times previous winner Ernie Els – shared sixth position at 8 under par.
