The oldest winner so far is Miguel Angel Jimenez, who won the 2004 Johnnie Walker Classic in Thailand, at the age of 40.

Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, and Ernie Els have each won the Johnnie Walker Classic twice.

European Tour and Johnnie Walker Winners

Of all Johnnie Walker Classic players, Ernie Els has broken the most Johnnie Walker Classic records. These include:

  • lowest 72-hole score to par for the tournament, and on the European, Asian, and Australasian PGA Tours
  • only wire-to-wire winner of the Johnnie Walker Classic
  • lowest first 54-hole score to par of 193 (-23) on the European Tour

In 2002, Retief Goosen broke the European Tour record for the largest third-round leading margin, with a 13-stroke lead. The original record was held by Ken Brown, who secured an 11-stroke lead in the 1984 Glasgow Open. Goosen went on to win the 2002 Johnnie Walker Classic by eight, from Sweden’s Pierre Fulke.

Kevin Stadler set a Johnnie Walker Classic record when he became the first sponsored player to win the tournament, in 2006. He and his father Craig Stadler are only the second ever father and son both to have secured wins on the European Tour.

Johnnie Walker Classic Play-offs

The 2007 tournament provided a Johnnie Walker Classic record – it saw the first ever three-way play-off, with Anton Haig, Richard Sterne, and Oliver Wilson all coming in after the last hole at 13 under par. Haig then sank a six-foot birdie putt to take the title.

In 1998, Tiger Woods won the Johnnie Walker Classic after a sudden-death play-off against Ernie Els. At the same tournament, Woods broke the record for the biggest final round comeback, when he shot a 7 under 65 to overturn an 8-shot deficit.

The only other Johnnie Walker Classic play-off occurred in 1996, when Ian Woosnam beat Andrew Coltart at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore.

The Hole-in-One

In Johnnie Walker Classic players history, three golfers have secured a hole-in-one. They include Sweden’s Matt Lanner in 1992, UK Peter Baker in 2001, and Singaporean Mardan Mamat in 2003.

Let’s see what 2009 brings in the way of new Johnnie Walker Classic winners!
