British Open Power Rankings – Lefty Drops After Horrible Scottish Open while Rose and Stricker Rise

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Tiger Woods has climbed his way to the Top of the British Open Power Rankings. Yes, I know, he didn’t even tee off at either the John Deere Classic or the Scottish Open this past week.
But because Phil “Lefty” Mickelson played about as badly as any golfer at the Scottish Open, Tiger inherits the top spot.

Furyk on the rise

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Furyk 8546352 300x223 Furyk on the riseJim Furyk (22/1 with Betfred to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational) has moved up three places to sixth in the world rankings following his long-awaited win on the PGA Tour.

The 39-year-old claimed victory in the Transitions Championship last weekend, which was his first win in the US since July 2007.

The two-time US Open winner has leaped above Ian Poulter (28/1 in the Masters w/o Woods market) in the rankings with that success, with the Englishman slipping to seventh.

Tiger Woods, who returns to action at next month’s Masters, remains comfortably at the top of the standings ahead of the first major of 2010, with fellow Americans Steve Stricker and Phil Mickelson second and third respectively.

European hopes of victory at Augusta are strengthened by having nine players in the top 20, with three Englishmen in the top ten – Poulter, Lee Westwood and Paul Casey.

Be sure to keep a regular check on Betfred’s golf betting markets in the run up to the Masters – which starts on April 8.

Poulter on the rise in Phoenix

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Poulter8413127 300x232 Poulter on the rise in PhoenixWorld Match Play champion Ian Poulter (25/1 in the outright betting) carded a superb 63 to move back into contention at the halfway stage of the Phoenix Open.

The Hertfordshire-born ace had disappointed on the opening day with a first round 72 but carded the best score on the second day with a bogey-free round, which included five birdies on the back nine, to move within four shots of the lead.

“I even booked a plane for takeoff at three this afternoon,” he said. “I wasn’t feeling good.

“It’s just nice to go out there and hit good golf shots, play well and put myself in a position now where I’ve put myself into form.”

Overnight leader Camilo Villegas (7/2 favourite to take the title) could not match his tournament record-equalling nine-under-par first round but still holds a share of the lead at 11-under after a second round 69.

American Mark Wilson (10/1) joined the Colombian at the top of the leaderboard in Arizona with a five-under-par 66, one shot clear of a three-way tie for third between Anthony Kim (6/1), Rickie Fowler (12/1) and Ryan Moore (10/1).

Spain’s Alvaro Quiros lies one shot further adrift at -9 alongside Australian Mathew Goggin and the American foursome of Pat Perez, Brandt Snedeker, Chris Couch and Tom Lehman.
